Hidden behind SHAMBLES restaurant & winebar on Teddington High Street is something you might not expect – our secluded garden, kitchen allotment and outdoor dining spaces. Over the years, the garden has become an important part of the restaurant. It is somewhere to enjoy lunch in the sunshine, dinner on a warm evening, a glass of wine with friends or a private celebration away from the bustle of the High Street. And because this is Britain, we should probably mention the weather. When it’s behaving itself, there are few places we’d rather be.
Our chefs have created a festive menu around fresh seasonal ingredients, handmade pasta and comforting Italian flavours. Add warm hospitality, live music and an award-winning wine list, and you have everything required for a memorable Christmas celebration. Whether you are organising the office party, bringing the whole family together or planning dinner with your favourite people, we will help you make it feel special.
Our festive menu is available for parties of six or more from 17 November until Christmas Eve. Pre-ordering is required.
Our garden is tucked away behind the restaurant and surrounded by mature planting, including our wisteria and mulberry tree. During the warmer months we use the garden for relaxed outdoor dining and drinks, with tables set amongst the plants and greenery. The garden isn’t simply an extension of the dining room. It’s part of SHAMBLES and has evolved with the restaurant over the years.
Overlooking the garden and wisteria is our Garden Balcony Terrace, a private outdoor space available for lunches, dinners, drinks receptions and celebrations. The terrace can accommodate approximately 26 guests seated or up to 50 standing, making it particularly suited to birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings, corporate events and smaller wedding celebrations. Large umbrellas provide shade during warmer weather. If the weather turns against us, we’ll always make sure guests can be accommodated somewhere dry, although an alternative area cannot always be guaranteed to remain private. Our outdoor space isn’t only for guests. Tucked between the restaurant and neighbouring homes is our small kitchen garden and allotment, where we grow herbs, vegetables, fruit and edible flowers for the restaurant. What we grow changes with the seasons and with whatever nature decides to give us. Produce can travel from the soil to the kitchen in a matter of minutes and regularly finds its way onto our menus, garnishes, preserves and staff meals. It’s a small-scale approach, but one that reflects the way we’ve always preferred to cook – seasonally, with good ingredients and as little waste as possible.
Perhaps we’re biased, but Italian food and wine were made for eating outdoors. Our menus change throughout the year, becoming lighter as spring and summer arrive and making the most of seasonal British produce alongside carefully sourced Italian ingredients. Add a chilled bottle of Italian white, rosé or sparkling wine and settle in for the afternoon. With more than 40 wines available by the glass, there’s no shortage of experimentation available either.
Our outdoor spaces can also form part of private celebrations at SHAMBLES. From intimate lunches and drinks receptions to birthdays, weddings and larger gatherings, we can help put together food, wine and use of the different areas of the restaurant to suit the occasion.
SHAMBLES is an independent, family-run Italian restaurant & winebar in the centre of Teddington, established in 1983. Our garden gives you the chance to escape the High Street without actually leaving it – seasonal Italian cooking, an extensive Italian-led wine list and one of Teddington’s hidden outdoor dining spaces.
