The name SHAMBLES comes from the building's original purpose. Before becoming a restaurant, the building was a butcher's shop and forms part of a historic Grade II listed former slaughterhouse dating back more than 250 years. The word "shambles" was historically used to describe an open-air meat market or slaughterhouse, making it a fitting name that reflects the building's heritage. Today, while the building has been transformed into an Italian restaurant & winebar, many of its original character features remain, helping to preserve an important piece of Teddington's history.

Massimo Langella is the Owner and Head Chef of SHAMBLES restaurant & winebar. Having grown up in the family business, he trained in some of London's leading Italian kitchens, including Zafferano and Locanda Locatelli under acclaimed chef Giorgio Locatelli, before returning to SHAMBLES in 2006 to lead the kitchen alongside his sister, Margherita. His cooking combines traditional Italian techniques with seasonal British produce, handmade pasta and a strong commitment to sustainability, while remaining true to the warm, family-run hospitality that has defined SHAMBLES for over 40 years. Our Story Awards

Coravin is an innovative wine preservation system that allows wine to be poured without removing the cork. By replacing the wine with inert argon gas, the remaining wine stays protected from oxygen, allowing bottles to be enjoyed over weeks, months or even years. At SHAMBLES, Coravin enables us to offer premium and rare wines by the glass, giving guests the opportunity to explore exceptional bottles without committing to a full bottle.

Our kitchen garden is a small growing space where we cultivate a selection of herbs, vegetables and edible flowers used throughout our menus. Growing produce on site allows us to harvest ingredients at their best, reduce food miles and make greater use of seasonal produce. Alongside carefully selected British and Italian suppliers, the kitchen garden plays an important role in our approach to fresh, seasonal cooking and sustainability.

We believe great ingredients begin with great suppliers. Our meat is sourced primarily from HG Walter, one of London's best respected independent butchers, known for working with trusted British farmers who share high standards of animal welfare and quality. Throughout the year we also source seasonal game from the Royal Crown Windsor Estate, allowing our menus to reflect the changing seasons.

SHAMBLES is known for its extensive Italian wine programme, offering more than 40 wines by the glass alongside a carefully curated bottle list featuring artisan producers from across Italy. Our collection ranges from everyday favourites to some of Italy's most celebrated wines, with many available by the glass using Coravin. Whether you're discovering a new grape variety or enjoying an iconic producer, our aim is to make great Italian wine approachable, enjoyable and part of every dining experience.

SHAMBLES restaurant & winebar opened in 1983 and has remained family owned ever since. The restaurant was founded by Franco and Jackie Langella and has been run since 2006 by their children, Massimo and Margherita Langella. The family's connection with hospitality in Teddington stretches back even further, beginning with the opening of Spaghetti Junction in 1972.

Spaghetti Junction was the Langella family's first restaurant, opening in Teddington in 1972. It became a well-known local Italian restaurant and served the community for over 25 years before closing in 1999. Today, SHAMBLES continues that family tradition, building on more than five decades of hospitality in Teddington.

SHAMBLES occupies a Grade II listed building that was originally part of a former slaughterhouse and butcher's premises dating back more than 250 years. The listing recognises its architectural and historic importance, helping to protect the character of one of Teddington's oldest commercial buildings. Many original features have been carefully retained, giving the restaurant its distinctive atmosphere and sense of history.

SHAMBLES combines more than 40 years of family ownership with a passion for seasonal Italian cooking, exceptional wine and genuine hospitality. Fresh pasta is handmade in house, many herbs and vegetables are grown in our own kitchen garden, and our menus change with the seasons using carefully sourced ingredients from trusted British and Italian suppliers.

Set within a historic Grade II listed building in the heart of Teddington, SHAMBLES offers a relaxed dining experience where great food, thoughtful wine and warm, attentive service come together. Whether you're joining us for a quick lunch, a family celebration or a long evening over good food and wine, our aim is to make every guest feel genuinely welcome, comfortable and looked after.

We believe warm hospitality is about more than serving great food - it's about creating an atmosphere where people can relax, connect and make memories around the table. It's this combination of family heritage, seasonal Italian cooking, exceptional wine and heartfelt hospitality that has kept guests returning, and introducing new generations of family and friends, for more than 40 years.
